Dear Diary *2

I thought I’d do one of these posts again since it has been a while and y’all didn’t mind my pointless rambling nearly as much as I thought you might ;)

What I’m watching

I’m super excited for the new season of Good Girls! It’s one of the few shows that I actually have a hard time not to binge. And that says a lot because usually I stretch even just a normal 45-minute episode of most shows over two days. But, alas, said season isn’t on Netflix yet.

So in the meantime I’m still re-watching Voyager. Season 4 is incredibly fun, Seven of Nine is a mood (and silly hot) and I can’t wait to watch Picard right after… Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill (who I had a huge crush on in Newsroom) and Jeri Ryan (back as Seven!) in one show sounds just amazing!

And, of course, Drag Race is back. Unlike most people I wasn’t a huge fan of the UK season and I’m not super impressed with the first set of queens for season 12 either but it’s definitely way too early to write the season off. At least the guest judges will be awesome this time around; I’m especially looking forward to AOC and Olivia Munn (of Newsroom fame too!).

What I’m listening to

I’m in the process of making a new playlist, it’s still very rough and will probably change a lot but the last one I made was surprisingly well received so I thought I’d share this one too. Unlike the last one, which was pretty chill and out of the way, this one is more intense. It consists of mostly goth, industrial, post punk, dark electro, darkwave, synthpop and digital hardcore. Check it out here or below if that sounds like something you’re into! (once it’s done I’ll post a YouTube version for the folks without Spotify).

What I’m playing

Friends and I are on between-Path-of-Exile-leagues break so we’re mostly grinding Dead by Daylight right now. DbD is a weird one. The game is buggy, looks awkward and more often than not the developers don’t seem to have any clue about what they’re doing. Yet… the game is really fun? I just really enjoy games where coordination and communication with your team mates is super important (oh, how I miss you, Left 4 Dead) and this game is very that. If any of you play it, let me know which perks you’re playing with in the comments!

A new game recently came out that was supposed to be the “DbD” killer and I actually had my hopes up because it looked very polished and a DbD-type of game from actually competent devs could have been amazing but sadly it seems to be dead in the water. From the looks of it the devs made the fatal mistake of balancing their game around angry reddit comments and ended up removing a lot of complexity and depth that the game used to have in its beta. We tried it during a free weekend and it wasn’t good. Oh well :(

Other than that we mostly play the waiting game. We’re doing a bit of GTA (which got F1 cars now) until Read Dead Redemption 2 gets on sale and some more content, I can’t wait for Bloodlines 2, there might a new Civilization VI expansion coming, Crusader Kings III sounds good, I’m kinda curious about the new Dungeon Defenders and the new game from the original creators of Left 4 Dead could be amazing… if it ever comes out. Fingers crossed!

Blog Stuff

The site is on new hardware since two weeks ago and actually does feel a bit snappier. I still have some weird connection resets (especially when loading pages in background tabs) but at this point I’m actually not sure if it’s an issue with the site/WordPress or the server.

I might try using CloudFlare again now. Last time I did people very specifically in California had horrendously bad load times and CloudFlare support never managed to figure it out but I’m hoping that switching to a different server in a different data centre might have solved that problem.

Completely different topic: I’m trying to take the whole social media thing a bit more seriously. So far it’s working out well, our twitter account went from 1500 or so to 13k followers within the last six months and I’m considering trying Instagram too but haven’t made up my mind yet because it does feel kinda icky…

There are Insta accounts posting random pictures and doing super well with it but the platform isn’t really made for posting pictures of other people, is it? What I might try tho is re-posting pictures from other Insta users (after asking them for permission) to give them more exposure. Yeah, I realise that sounds silly from someone who doesn’t even have an account yet ;) But I think I could build a decent following if I put some effort in. We’ll see, I’ll think about that some more.
